MASQUERADE PARTY
There is no blood on
the snow,
its picture perfect
portrait
beauty remains
undisturbed.
All but the blind and
self-willed ignorant,
understand it is an
unmade bed
‘neath that blanket
covering
lay the windblown wasted
trash,
the broken bottle glass left from summer
the broken bottle glass left from summer
& the mortal
remains of the frozen dead.
Endlessly we learn on TV beauty is skin deep.
Endlessly we learn on TV beauty is skin deep.
That for a slight fee
every teenager can be pimple free,
Same as good long snow
covers dirt waiting a spring cleaning.

like white washing a fence..or putting another coat of paint on dry rot...its still there....aint not blood in the snow til you step on the broken glass you just cant see now...
ReplyDeleteBrian I stopped going barefoot in the snow when I realized my feet were cold still in July. But you're right there is only one way to clean up the hidden mess, simply do what's necessary to clean it up.
DeleteSnow covers up some sins indeed. For a while.
ReplyDeleteCharles, snow is very similar to the lies we constantly tell ourselves about how if it looks good it is good. I personally would rather have a few pimples to prove my authenticity as just another member of a genus trying to be, to live.
DeleteSnow covers up but after a while even the snow becomes dirty
ReplyDeleteJeff not so much the past 2 winters, you experienced the last one and right now the temperature has climbed from -4 to 0 so there is no real slush so far this season.
DeleteNice.
ReplyDeleteThanks Ivan, follows all the rules of free form. And blesses the damn snaow at the same time!
Deletehow true! the only good part of the relentless snowfall here in my parts is that it's remained pristine. because normally the coverer is as dingy as the coveree.
ReplyDeleteyour writing has been consistently fine, mark xo

Well here at least it doesn't remain pristine for long, the idiot driver across the street keeps backing into my snow bank, so far it appears she has doen about $3000 worth of damage to her car. But it is entertaining watching her try to get in and out of her driveway.
DeleteSnow looks white and pristine but once it is mixed with mud and grime, its slush and dirty ~ But it does hide the trash and what not on the street ~
ReplyDeleteI remember the Christmas snow after Hurricane Hugo hit this area in Sept. The snow covered up the ugliness of the broken trees for a while. A brief respite was needed. And it helped to restore us for a little while--like having a white Christmas miracle.
