A HANDFUL OF SCATTERED SEED

ROOTED AND GROWING
I am living in the garden grown, one of the many seeds sown. I make no determination towards my beauty of being or appalling uselessness in the gardener’s seeing. I was birthed in this place and given no conditions to how I should grow. I would like to be a flower plucked to make a bouquet for a lover’s heart, yet it is not my fate to determine if I am good enough to be a part of that kind of display. I may after all be nothing but a weed choking off life for something more pretty or useful than me. No life can resist its fate, be it bountiful or, another kind of life to abate. I am but a simple thing grown from a seed to fill a space until I have proven I am worthy of life in this place. In silence I my fate await and ‘til the seasons turning no matter my physical being I will enjoy the rain and the sun as my simple reason for being.

  1. Weeds can be beautiful, too, even if people didn't plant them intentionally. Perhaps you are stronger and more useful than you think, more of a tree than a flower...

    1. Cheryl I often feel like I came out of a passing birds ass. One can be surrounded by so much need that even old growth trees get cut for someone else benefit. Take that which thrives on it's own for a mutual concern and greed comes from an unseen direction and chips away until even the stoutest of trees fall.

  2. it is not my fate to determine if i am good enough...that line itself says much and carries wisdom if we can live that way....not sure if i am ready to turn over all control of my fate...i do think our decisions can determine it in some ways...

    1. I am bored with decisions Brian, I have made enough to allow myself to not care about anything other than...reality as it is, and accept it.

    1. Rosaria it has been so long since I have moved I have become rooted in this garden, simply waiting and watching for the next culling.

  4. I like the metaphor of the seed and garden ~ it makes me reflect on our purpose in life ~ Though we can't resist our fate, we have a choice or a hand to where we will ultimately journey on ~

    1. The next journey Grace; can be looked at as a deliberate movement towards or is it a road down which we will walk that has been ordained by another? I guess it is a matter of where you place your trust, some gardener may see a weed and another a medicinal herb.

  5. ...and who may judge you to be weed or flower, certainly not a humble human being. And yes, we do have the choice of where we go, what we do, how often we change our minds and outlook on life.

    1. Ahh Shadow I am judged daily, if not by myself then by them in the world I am surrounded by. Choices...in this world choices are not made with determination of anything other than how many zeroes are behind the first digit.

    1. I suppose there is a metaphor in there somewhere but rain and sun only allow for upward movement in the natural order.

  7. I think weeds get a bad rap. I think they're all flowers waiting to be plucked until sometime determines they are too common, too fruitful and then they are labeled pests. As always, your writing provokes thought, Mark.
