THE UNWANTED

WHAT DARKNESS IS CREEPING INTO OUR BEING

Babies bathroom born into light with eyes not yet open then bagged but not tagged stuffed into a desk drawer, left to freeze behind a closed garage door while mom is inside warm, boxed and placed with the rest of the clutter left to rot for years. Mothers standing mute before the court now finding tears for themselves but still none for the dead daughters and sons. Toddlers, unwatched, open doors and wander away to their dying day. There are laws and places the unwanted can be made safe, dropped off without a word, their lives preserved but what thinking allows for the murder of a healthy newborn kid rather instead of giving the child in to the arms of an agency that will see that it lives? What the fuck is wrong with us, what sort of God damned people have we become?

M Durfee

All of the above child murders immediately post birth mentioned happened, two in the Detroit area, one in Utah and toddlers wander away every day because no who may care is watching them.

  1. Words fail me. Horrific and dastardly cruel.

What sort of person is it that commits these hellish crimes? Junkies? Sickos? Or so very scared of something?

It's such a sad, mad and unhappy world today when tragedies like this occur.

    1. Philip no the mother who let her baby freeze was 23 and had 3 other kids she took care of, she partied but i wouldn't call her a junkie, the second was at work doing clerical duties when she gave birth--I do not have the faintest clue what their fear was. They could have taken them to any police station, firehouse or hospital, and dropped them off and walked away. I just don't know.

  2. Dude. My stomach is turning, and heart breaking at the inhumanity of us. To discard a life like that (afterbirth) letting it suffocate in a bag or being left in a garage. What have we come to? There are plenty of couples that I know who have been unable to have children that would gladly take a child and love it.

    1. I do not know Brian, usually you can find in history where an action is a repeat but in all of these cases these healthy WHITE babies did not need to die. I mention their race only in case someone would think otherwise. The two Detroit women were both mid 20's so there is no excuse.

    1. Grace I have no answer either. In MI we have a safe haven no questions asked. A mother can turn her newborn over to any police, fire, or hospital with no words spoken and walk away. It has been a well publicized law but rarely do these people (yes including the fathers) take advantage of it.

  4. There are times our anger at such atrocities is the only appropriate response.

    1. Tung--people best start carrying flashlights then because there seems to be a great cloud of darkness encompassing us, so great is this cloud that its many pieces are coalescing to form an impenetrable whole.

  8. This isn't exactly new to the human species. At least we have reached a point where we claim to care. For many cultures over the centuries children weren't counted as human until they were old enough to fend for themselves. Tossing a baby out was considered regrettable but sometimes necessary.
