TRUE TALES FROM LATE AT NIGHT

BE THE NOISE EVER SO HUMBLE $*@)% (48205)
Between the 0430 drunken screaming match
between two morbidly obese women
arguing about the last hit of gin,
the ever growing, shifting, creaking
mountain of bent ruined bicycle frames,
in good shape with pedals, chains and tires
when they were late night stolen,
the new age settlers squatting
on once  native mortgaged lands
living with no water, electricity or, gas
who tear out the studs in the wall for firewood,
the woman who sleeps with her Glock
who actually got a few rounds off
at the 5 gentlemen who only wanted
to pay her a cordial visit
through the windows
they broke out at 0315,
another house, beautiful, being stripped
of its 50 year old aluminum siding
by 0200 pry bars working at
what wasn’t money in the bank the day before,
while the 87 year old women inside
who tried to find out what caused the noise
lies between the bed and wall where she fell
as she prayed and waited 17 hours
before a dead friends son found her,
and a police force
that only travels
in the safest neighborhoods,
I find that my headphones late at night
sending me music from Pandora’s open box
is a humorous dichotomy,
and one very long run on sentence.

  2. And yet, despite the music - you know all that is happening. I get this interesting picture in my mind of you on the porch - the music in your ears much different as everything goes on around you. Shotgun on your lap, of course. What interesting animals we are.

  3. ... and that's how the cookie crumbles ... but you know what ... cookie crumbs are really pretty good ... except: never eat cookies in bed, u hear me? ... smiles ... Love, cat.

  4. The sweetness in the headphones makes the bitterness outside all the more striking, but I love your run on sentence.

  6. I guess people do what they must to survive. And if it takes dope or drink to escape the life, so be that. Our society is not conducive to those who cannot measure up.
