THE NATIONAL EYE IS ON PARIS OF THE MIDWEST*

DETROIT WATER CRISIS.
We live a life, frenetic and fast, paced to wear us down to dream. Sleep so we can escape the rush in unfathomable scenes conjured from deep within. Unless of course “we” are among them who shrug at the world and wile away the day smoking cigarettes and using the toilet. That way when I sleep my subconscious has no shit to get out. Dreams? Who the hell needs dreams when you have cigarettes and a functioning toilet?

*Paris of the Midwest was one of the many titles the national media crowned Detroit with during the first half of the 20th century. It is in reference to the many boulevards that crisscross the city.

  1. So someone needs to write a story called, "We'll always have Detroit."

    1. Yes sir anytime you need a modern day equivalent to the fall of a great empire, one that died of a thousand cuts "We'll always have Detroit."

  2. I know the fast paced life as it's the same here ~ But thankfully we have water despite the semi-functioning Toronto Mayor ~

    1. Grace I would trade your Ford for my Orr. This life in Detroit for about 300,000 people is at a stand still--dare i say it? They are constipated.

  3. I'll skip the cigarettes, but that toilet can be pretty important.

Hey, did you notice I used your phrase on last week's Jack and Jill?

    1. Not according to the Detroit Water and Sewerage Department. That toilet does not deserve water if you're 2 months or $150 behind on your bill.

No I didn't but I went and read it and dang it you rearranged the context but at least i had to agree with the last line Jill said to Jack.

    1. Oh you mean those 5 big lakes? the ones that contain 1/5 of the earths fresh water? You can have all the water out of them you can haul, just not the treated potable water that is sold by the city to 4 million people. Seems that 1/2 of the residents of this fine city owe $60 million in back water bills to the city so in the emergency managers infinite wisdom and shining light he hired a company to star shutting off the 90,000 households that are in arrears of $150 or more. He needs the money from that department because the city will no longer pay any pension obligations so water is about to become the cash cow.

    1. Hey but Cloudia it was only a short run up the pier---unless of course you waited to long--then it was more like a crab run up the pier. Or jump in the cove and pee in the ocean. whales do it all the time.

    1. Shadow trust me--this entire population of 4 million people have slept their way to oblivion. We laid down o take a nap in July '67 and never woke up until 12 months ago. #.5 million couldn't be happier that they woke up to the 500,000 living in bankruptcy and ruin.

    1. Naw this roller coaster is being fed entirely by gravity now, the government gave it a push over the edge and we will regress from a place of 140 sq miles to one of 30 sq miles and the rest will be a buffer zone of darkness until not a living soul exists in it.

  8. Detroit was such a major city in its day. I hope that some beauty can be restored and that it will arise again. I don't need no stinkin' toilet when I have woods.
