A ROOM WITHIN

Within my heart
is a house of many rooms.
Some need paint,
others smell so bad that I faint,
and then there are a few
from old days where gardens untended,
still though left alone flourished and grew.

But within the depths of I
there is a special room
that has never needed me to try
color or broom, plants or blooms.
It is the quiet eternal spot of peace.
I know where it is
but
my fault is forgetting that room
is where I find all of my troubles release.

In that quiet life renewing spot
that every living thing has got
growing with every breath made,
I can commune with the eternal side of me
that without recrimination e'er waits in peace
for my over long lengths of time away.

Waits for me there
simply to hold me in untroubled hands.
Soothing away all my cares
blocking the door from all my fears.
It is so much a part of being human to forget
that we share energy with all that is
be it seen or not
everything ever
created,
formed,
shaped
or
made.

  1. we do share energy...and you are right, it is hard to remember that place in the midst of emotion and the moment that we can go to releasing our cares and troubles...

    1. Brian--my human side oft times forgets that I need not immerse myself in the noisy swamp but like a lotus i can grow and rise above it and sit in free air and breathe.

    1. Galen, you know as well as I that I am going to lose a lot within the next year as both a resident and a pensioner of this city but in the end I try to never forget that a way out or a door to somewhere opens and the needs still get met. I do at times though forget i can simply be quiet and know peace.

  3. So very true about the connection we have with everything around us...and we forget sometimes that the energy is there to be leaned on when necessary, borrowed, too, if needed and shared.

    1. Talon, if only everyone would realize that our connections are not only spiritual but physical as well. That our atomic structure is cosmic as well we might start to think in larger terms.

  4. Very nice. Both the poem and the thought behind it.

    1. Thank you Charles i alost can't wait until this place pisses me off again. But I think the time away from Detroit showed me a bit of perspective and reminded me of things I already knew.

    1. Punch that as you know is true, it is the immutable principle of faith. Not belief but faith.

    1. Thanks Jeff I don't know why my mind normally goes to rhyme the way it does. I honestly believe that everyone has a place of many rooms within.

  7. Thank you for reminding me of that room. I need a sojourn there in my own room.

  8. I like that we have so many multi-faceted parts of ourselves, but I am hoping that the "room" where I mostly reside is filled with light and joy and an overwhelming sense of peace.

  9. Mark, go into your 'beautiful room' as often as you need. God knows Detroit and it's actions are not pretty! xo
