NO ROOM LEFT IN THE PAST

GATHER WISDOM FROM THE PRESENT

In the crossing over the bridge of time
from the first heartbeat to the last;
few are they who honestly ask why.
Men, cry, sigh, die,
the sadly typical unquestioning
life progression.
Few are they who have become comfortable knowing
that the seed planted was their own soul
in soil not dirt sown but planted still
for no other reason than to be grown.

We look for wisdom in plantings long gone,
parse the spent and eaten fruits from yesteryear
to fit a need where the past has no room to hear.
Question ever rise anew for today’s man to bear.
Wrapped entirely in problems present,
few afford a luxury allowing them to ask, to care
choose wisely from the fresh boughs in this day
them who grew among you,
them who saw what you did not
plaguing this day. then the answers fit
the questions risen anew on this bridge’s bit,
this moment on the bridge of time.

  1. Wisdom doesn't seem easy to come by for many, although the lessons are always there.

    1. My point Charles is that we have changed society so much, in so many ways that the old adages do not fit for this era. We need wisdom found in the present by them alive in the present--though I am not certain that we have enough rational people on the planet to actually offer that universal thing called wisdom or enough people open enough to hear it.

  2. I spend entirely too much time parsing the moments. Sometimes I get so wrapped up in it, that I forget to live in the moment.

    1. My opinion Alice? It is only by getting wrapped up in the moment that makes you engaged in the moment. Too many are disengaged, facebook warriors, silent or digital anonymous cowards.

    2. But I just can't resist the internet. It's an addiction.

  3. That's it! Common sense of old, is not present in today's minds. What we accepted as a given, knew to be right or wrong, has been convoluted, distorted, cheapened, Idiocracy lives!

    1. Yes Shadow! But we have time, a moment or two left to silence first ourselves then offer the same quiet to the herd. Old problems that have evolved to today obviously did not take to old wisdom. Let's us, the artists and poets take to horse and wrangle understanding into the light of day.

  4. I think we, by human nature, neglect the present by focusing too much on the past...

    1. OE--many people, not all try to hold to a past that on reflection was truly not better than our current condition in society. I am certain that within history both ancient and near I can find conditions that reflect today's culture on the planet--but the solutions, are not and can not be the same. It is the solutions and wisdom of yesterday that brought us to today.

It is time for a new thinking to emerge.
