LIFE ISN'T PASSING YOU BY

DON”T WASTE YER TIME A DROWNING

Everywhere people sigh
and
think life’s passing them by,
though that truly be an impossible task
for life to complete. I am not one of those
quite like that—though I do not constantly
look for the shading in colors of the rose
or
try to find why mountains are
a lovely mystery to me.
Just knowing it be so is enough
to satisfy my simple needs.

Accepting the things as they are,
even as they process their becoming,
has filled my life, sometimes to my chagrin.
I found my sight to be wrong
long after I passed the sign BEGINà,
Then old stupid me has to again start anew
to see the thing I am always looking at;
for a nearer view
of the possible false and real true.

No man can honestly say
living was here yesterday
but is gone now today.
Not until after that final breath
that comes with death anyway.
No man can honestly cry
that “life has passed me by!”
All are in the waters
whether they wish or not,
the difference is only found
in swim, float or drown.

No one should be forced
to the last
that’s a givin’ up
before ya even know
what in time can be found
as it floats on past.

  1. Good one Mark.

Life does, however float on past at an ever-increasing rate of knots the older one gets.

Like watching the ripples on the pond after the pebble has been thrown as they approach the banks and just disappear in a flash.

    1. It does seem harder as i age to keep from wanting to slip below the waters Philip and I am not that old, but then I look for new ripples and waves to ride on for a bit and things get better.

  2. I'm glad someone does this kind of thinking that I can read about. Seems I avoid summing up or analyzing life these days. Too painful perhaps. or too scary

  3. We are on the march toward death from the moment we pop out
you cant focus on that though or it will consume you.
To truly see things, is a blessing. And we choose to see,
    we choose how to live.

    1. OH X if only it were as simple as making a choice, maybe once it was but as I age I find I have more variables and possibles to consider but once I do start down a path I am convinced it is the right one for me, until i figure out I need turn around an choose again.

Death, dying, shit happens some too soon others not soon enough but most people would prefer to not as if it were a tax due or something.

  4. I've come back and reread this 3 times--there is some deep meaning in these words, a call to be awake and to live

    1. Exactly Jeff, you are one of the most engaged people i have ever come to know. It seems like you never met a current you did not find a way to put your oar into. That is living.

  5. Your words lead to the perfect, only, solution... stay in the moment. the next one will come as surely as your next breath.

    1. Shadow as you said, this is the only life there is, this breath, this heartbeat. All else is passed and what comes in the next is truly nothing to draw fearful conclusions over.

  6. These lines packed a lot of wisdom :

    No man can honestly cry
that “life has passed me by!”
    All are in the waters
    whether they wish or not,
    the difference is only found
    in swim, float or drown.

I like process of becoming, ever changing, ever moving ~
