SAIL ON
O brother, my brother
of the stormy seas,
waves that ever raged ‘neath the calm winds.
You knew, you understood that currents and tides
could any moment take your sails
in directions unbidden.
In having beaten the hurricane;
Many times sailed the whirlwind
it was but a slack breeze;
none left to fill your sail,
that you may pass the shoal
one more time.
A bend to your keel,
that took you from the shore of living victory
to shores of peace
where storms rage no more.
Heaven’s door opens,
standing there is my brother,
my brother
too soon sailed off
not used to days light
navigator by Polaris' sight.
O brother, O brother gone are you now,
sailed past them beloved by you.
Yet loving you, loving you still.
Your dreams have come to be
the nightmares of a world too dearly paid for
are ended now; escaped.
Cry not out in the darkness any more
I hear your soft voice saying
be still,
be still, listen for on the breeze of freedom,
I am on liberty,
no longer adrift, at sea no more.

ReplyDeletebut perhaps he has found peace on the other side of that horizon...
nicely done
ReplyDeleteBe still, be still. Not, apparently, an easy thing for most modern humans to do.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful lament!
ReplyDeleteIt is this beauty/this chant of the mourner that allows us to glow at a time when everything feels so dark.
me like ... the peace about this
ReplyDeleteTis beautiful, mark. This sounds like a great loss. And may it be true that in death we find peace. If I believe that is true then I too believe this man your brother will watch over you
ReplyDeleteLove
