DANCING WITH FLAMES, WORDS, AND ICEBERGS.

AS GOOD AS IT GETS

Having fallen into the land of
as good as it gets,
I know I can waste the rest of my life
wonderin’ if I have any unfamiliar regrets.

I will not immolate myself
drinking flammables and dancing
on the hot end of the cigarette
held in the hand of concluded ideology.

Truth as it knows itself to be
is hot enough for
an idiot iceberg like me.
Melt my body, turn my soul to ash.

This is as good as it gets.

  1. Despite the irony & cruel turns in life, if we can find grace & acceptance in the truth, then surely this is as good as it gets ~ Enjoyed your reflections Mark ~ Happy Sunday ~

    1. I can accept Grace, but not without a fight (as ever), eventually I come to that place of settlement.

Thank you. It was a good day!

    1. It is that finding of truth Brian. We all see some of it until we prove how foolish an image was taken from our misunderstanding eh?

  4. Yeah, I don't need any unfamiliar regrets either. I've got plenty enough familiar ones.

    1. I agree Alice I have enough myself. Though they are like fog, pretty much useless.

  5. I don't know if I've past the times of living as good as it gets or if that is now or yet to come. I look at each day as a new adventure. Trying to keep it real and loose and moving.
