DO NOT LIVE A POINTLESS LIFE OF
REGRET
Do not cry out against the cold darkness
of no more for it be a futile gesture
of remorse at the living that has a’ready been done.
Better it be to live in truth and honesty now
than lament the lack of it
as you pass through that door to death.
I will go with a smile on my face,
regretting nothing, no goodness, no mistake
it will be true that I will fear no evil
when I finally pass through that valley one last
time
for I know all I have done I have done humbly,
gladly.
Rage while you live and do some good in your anger,
when you are dead
you can no longer do what you wish you could.
By then it has all been said and done,
and if there are no regrets in you when you meet
your death
you will pass away easily into the dark deep sleep comfortably
even if it be you gather your freedom
from this binding place
cold, alone, in an exposed doorway.

there comes a point where you are ready just to embrace the ever after no matter what it is...rage when you are young, make a difference..yes, and hopefully that affords you the opportunity to rest a bit when the day comes....
ReplyDeleteLiving true. To yourself and the life you have chosen. Yes, I agree completely.
ReplyDeleteTo sleep, to find comfort, find peace. yes.
ReplyDeleteJeez Mark....

ReplyDeleteNot to besmirch good work,
ReplyDeletebut to be 75 and still somehow randy,
I echo the words of the previous lady prof after I got my job.
...Is there oral sex after death?

Nice way to look at life. I agree that you should only do what you will be happy about.
ReplyDeleteThose last five lines are chillingly good.
ReplyDeleteYou do sound like you are accepting of that dark deep sleep, but I hope not preparing; at least not preparing too much. Because I hope you and your word weaving have another 20 or so good years on you.
