CHOICES SNAP CRACKLE
POP KNEES OR SIT AND SILENCE
I agree there is no sense
I agree there is no sense
in bending my knee
to worship some pagan deity.
No government, corporation or Wall Street bank
will ever see me cower before them for I have already
with thanks given up all my wants.
And only am subject to my needs.
Food for the body,
knowledge for the soul,
peace for the spirit is all that is required of me.
And that one who makes these demands
laughs at a foolish me when before him I try to bend a knee
because he knows that for me
getting up from supplication is a painful experience.
That one true deity would rather we sit and talk
or take a short walk in the tree given shade
using our silence while ruminating over how it has come to
be
that so many of the children of creation have come
to bend a knee to the worst pagan deity of all;
the call to hate and violence.
I can meet enmity and laugh,
no human that has ever lived ‘cept one
can make me utter tears of sorrow
simply because there is nothing I want
and my needs, you can bet;
they’re already met, yesterday, today and tomorrow.

happy labor day man...if you can, it is def better not to sell your soul to the corporate devil....did that once at Citi...now i am on the sinking ship of education plugging holes with fingers....
ReplyDeleteDamn I missed labor day? Must have been because no one around here works. Brian if you run out of fingers and toes for those holes just remember you have one more suitable appendage. Just make sure it's a small hole cuz you know how things shrink when they get cold.
DeleteSo are my needs ... met a long time ago ... you never answered my letter ... I like the silence ... your silence ... yet I feel we are talking all the time to each other ... have a good Labour Day, great one ... always, cat.
ReplyDeleteWe are very much alike Whiskers!
DeleteI am not quite so whole. I wish I were.
ReplyDeleteCharles I find that the places in myself I question the most are the places of the deepest pools and eventually I find they either are not so deep or they are very full. What do you lack? Peace of mind...then stop nitpicking yourself to sorrow.
DeleteTo want (and lack) nothing is the ultimate place to reside in.
ReplyDeleteBAZINGO! Talon that is where the quiet is.
Deletefar too long since I've stopped by. As always, your words resonate. Hope you are well my friend.
ReplyDeleteHI SUSAN I miss you. I hope everything is going wellwith you and the mountain and the pooch!
DeleteLots and lots of wisdom in this one. I like the walking or sitting and talking with a frank deity.
ReplyDeleteThe only way I know of Alice. At least the only way I know of and not appear a fool.
DeleteWe bend our knees all the time, but to whom....who is the one deserving of our souls ~
ReplyDeleteHappy long weekend Mark ~
GREAT question Grace---define your soul and you will know who is worthy to touch it.
Delete"Rather we sit & talk.". Brilliant insight, Bro
ReplyDeleteAloha
With you sista that may be kind of hard because Pele is pretty fiery and all...maybe sit at a distance.
DeleteWe are all, in the end, responsible for our own actions. Wisely chosen words, Mark.
ReplyDeleteThank you Renee and I agree we all choose a path and are responsible for it.
DeleteNo attachment: no suffering
ReplyDeleteI know you would bend a knee for me, mark, and roils I for you.
Love

kj--That depends on what kind of pie you're serving.
DeleteSomehow I never equate paganism with a deity although there is ample proof of same. I too would rather sit and talk or walk in silence under the shade of a tree and hear what the one true voice is saying if I could but quiet the voices inside me. It's a lifelong endeavor.
ReplyDeleteOddly enough Carleton you know the Druids would consider us as pagans. I guess it's a matter of perspective from where you stand.
DeleteMark-I'm working on it. Have love and it's enough. xo
ReplyDeleteIf you are satisfied in that space Jodi then Lennon/McCartney had it right.
DeleteNo need to genuflect on my account Brother...
ReplyDeleteHow could i not give a shit and genuflect at least Galen?
DeleteAre you sure you're not a traveling Buddhist monk? St. Francis of Detroit?
ReplyDeleteCan I be a Brahman this week Erik?
DeleteVery wise. Walking and talking with the true deity among the trees would be real--how to we abolish the false gods of violence and war?
ReplyDeleteThank you for this.
ds Refuse to fight for them who make the profit, they will not go out and face their own death. That scares them. Just refuse.
